Etiquette For Giving Wedding Favors

Posted by Pamela Kazmierczak

Believe it or not there are actually certain rules of etiquette which apply to the act of giving wedding favors at your wedding reception. Although many of these rules are not as rigid as other types of etiquette it is important to realize there are some generally accepted principles which are associated with the distribution of wedding favors.

These rules of etiquette include questions such as whether or not favors are necessary, whether or not favors should be given to children, how favors should be distributed and how much should be spent on wedding favors. This article will take a look at some of these rules of etiquette and will hopefully help the reader to understand a little more about the etiquette involved in giving wedding favors.

The question of whether or not wedding favors are necessary is certainly one question many couples have as they are planning their wedding day. The answer to this question is that wedding favors are not absolutely required but they are certainly expected. This means you do not have to give wedding favors but many of your guests will be expecting to receive one. Therefore not distributing favors is not recommended. This is because wedding favors are a way of thanking your guests for coming to your wedding and offering them a memento of the occasion.

While you can certainly visit with each guest individually to express your thanks for their attendance this may not be possible if you are having a very large wedding. You may make an effort to visit with each guest but may simply run out of time. However, if you provide wedding favors your guests will know their attendance at the wedding was appreciated.

If you are including children in your wedding ceremony and reception you should definitely give some thought to giving wedding favors to the children. Traditionally, children at a wedding would receive the same favor as the adults. However, some couples may opt to give the children a favor which is more age appropriate. This can be difficult to do because in most cases favors are merely left on the table. If you only have one or two children in attendance you can simply place favors at each place setting and during the reception take some time to visit with the children and offer them the more age appropriate favor in addition to the one found at their place setting.

However, if you plan on having a large number of children in attendance this technique can create a significant additional expense because each of the children will be receiving two favors. In this case you can place the favors with the place cards. This will help to ensure the children are all receiving the appropriate wedding favor.

Another concern couples often have regarding wedding favor etiquette is how the favors should be distributed. The easiest and most common way to distribute wedding favors is to place the favors at each place setting before the reception begins.

In most catering halls the staff will be happy to put the favors out while they are setting the tables. However, if they are unable to do so, you can ask a friend or family member to visit the catering hall before the reception to take care of this detail. For guests who do not attend your wedding but send a gift in advance you might want to consider mailing a favor to them along with a thank you note to express your gratitude for their kindness.

Many couples are concerned with the cost of wedding favors. In fact one of the primary reasons many couples consider not giving wedding favors is they think it will be too costly. It is important to note that wedding favors do not have to be extravagant or expensive. A favor of a simple flower can be quite inexpensive and still shows your appreciation for your guests.

Deciding how much to spend on wedding favors is mostly a matter of your personal budget. You should set a budget for wedding favors first and then begin shopping for favors which you think will be appropriate. This will allow you to seek out great deals and offer your guests the most appropriate wedding favor you can afford to give.

Ways To Make Your Wedding Unique

Posted by Aaron Hu

From the moment you got engaged, thoughts of your wedding have filled your head. It is supposed to be a magical event that you and your guest will always remember. To do that, it can’t just be a cookie-cutter wedding; you want something that all your own. Of course there are the wedding favors. Making sure you have unique wedding favors is a start. There is no magic formula for that unique wedding, but if you see some of the things other people have done you might get some ideas.

One very sweet, unique idea came to this one couple. The enclosed a few dried and pressed red rose pedals with the invitations they sent out. They also enclosed a note to bring the pedals with them to the ceremony. There they were added with white rose pedals and given to the flower girl. Before the bride walked down the isle there was a carpet of pedals from friends and family. Everyone had their own special part in the ceremony.

The ceremony it’s self really lends it’s self to so many ways to be creative and to make your wedding beautiful and unique. One interesting one was in a wedding of an Irish American family. Along with the tuxedo the groom and grooms men for a sash of their family clan. It took a little searching on the internet and special ordering but the end result was moving. Another beautiful idea was for a night time wedding. It was kept in low light after everyone was seated. As the bride’s maids and groom’s men marched down the aisle each of them carried a pair of ornate lanterns. At what served as the alter the lanterns were placed (and turned up) and the entire ceremony was conducted by lantern light. It cast a nice romantic glow as they exchanged vows. Others that have had an outside wedding have shied away from the traditional layout with the bride and groom at the front of rows of chairs. Instead, they opted for a round dais or alter in the center of rings of chairs. The bride and groom would enter from opposite sides, passing under rose covered arbors to meet in the center. It gave the ceremony a very intimate feel.

Still others have tried to take that intimate feel to the reception. One idea was to light it almost entirely by candle light. To get the effect they wanted they placed round mirrors on the tables with a candle in a glass vase in the center. From the ceiling they hung fixtures with multifaceted reflective surfaces. It gave the feeling of dancing under twinkling stars. If you wanted to get really nutty you could turn down the thermostat and use just a little dry ice to give it a “A Mid Summer’s Night” sort of feel. It would look very magical and Edwardian.

You could go very practical. Kids get bored at receptions and some parents just stop long enough to see the cutting of the cake. Try renting a few kid-sized tables and top it with crayons and coloring books. Sure, the parents won’t be closing down the reception but it can buy the parents some time to enjoy the event before the kids get too bored

There are all sorts of things you can do that your planner might not think of. It’s your day and you can make it your own.

The Responsibilities Of Groomsmen

Posted by Andrea McClure

It just might not be possible to pull off a good wedding with out the bridesmaids and their counter part, the groomsmen. After all they do for you to help pull of a perfect wedding; you will understand why they get groomsmen gifts. The groomsman gifts are the least you can do to thank them for all their help and sacrifice. Just think how much you’d have to pay some one to put up with you as you are stressing out about the wedding and to be a “Johnny-on-the-spot” for you on the big day!

The groomsmen of today have it pretty easy. Well, easy compared to their medieval counterparts. Back in the days of yore, they would travel with the groom great distances, by standards of the day, and were expected to do battle with the highwaymen and roving hordes of bandits. Meanwhile, the second in command, the best man, would guard the ring with his life. They were very much a protection detail to get the groom to the wedding alive. While there is no need for that now, it would still be bad form to allow the groom to get mugged on the way to the alter! Nowadays things are much safer for the groomsmen but their responsibilities are just as important.

They are now the male contingent to the wedding party. They are expected to attend the engagement party, the rehearsal dinner and the ceremony. Then of course the men’s wedding shower, the bachelor party. During all this, they are expected to give gift at the same places as the rest of the guest. They are also expected to pay for their tuxedo and, if they have to travel, the cost of their accommodations. With the bachelor party they are expected to pay for themselves and a share of the grooms cost. While a bit of debauchery is expected, they are also not to get the groom into trouble with the future Mrs. nor let him do that to him self. At the wedding itself they often serve as ushers but then march with the bridesmaids to the alter. During the reception they dance with the bridesmaids at the appointed songs. Later, as the bridesmaids are doing hostess duties, the groomsmen are the muscle. Not like beating people up and such, but helping move the gifts and other thing that would look odd to see a bridesmaids do (move a table or chair).

With all they do it is customary to give the grooms men a gift. This is usually done before the bachelor party or right before the wedding. Right before the wedding tends to be a very good time because it is right before they are forced to stand through the taking of the wedding photos and when they are performing their most important task, moral support. They should have been doing that all along but today it is most important.

There is no etiquette on how much to spend or rather they should all be the same or individual, it is up to the groom. Take some time to think about it and put the same effort into your choice as they have been taking in your wedding. Maybe get them all tickets to a ball game next year or personalized item for each that reflect the groomsman. The choice is yours.

Pre-Bridal Photography – A Great Wedding Idea

Posted by Jessy Wong

Ask any of your married friends about wedding day stress and you will sure to still be talking with them two hours later.

Your wedding day should be relaxing and laid back. You shouldn’t have a care in the world on your once-in-a-life-time special day. Yet for many couples they don’t always get this.

There is so much to do on your actual wedding day that a day in a busy office would be like taking a day off compared to your wedding day. Asking for support from everyone that you can will make your special day more special.

Your wedding day will full for sure but stress can be avoided as long as you get lots of support and plan well. Remember your wedding professionals are there to take the stress from you and if have planned well a few of your close friends will be there to catch any problems for you and solve them.

Around ten years ago pre-wedding photography came into its own in Singapore as a way to have a more enjoyable actual wedding day. Today it is very popular. With Singapore having a lot of traditional Asian style weddings doing a lot of the main photography before the wedding is often essential. Traditional weddings are involving and detailed and involve usually a large number of people. Getting the main photos done ahead of time is essential.

Switched on bridal photographers started to offer pre-bridal photography packages so that not only could the stress be removed from the actual day, any risk with bad weather was removed and also then an album was available at the reception.

Pre-wedding packages come in all shapes and sizes. Most of the packages offered will include both outdoor shots as well as studio shots. Simply ask your photographer what will be included in your package.

As well as making sure you get a great set of photographs for your album, pre-wedding photos mean that you have something special to show at your actual wedding to your guests, which is always nice.

Pre-bridal photography is catching on around the world now. It may not be called pre-bridal in other countries but the idea still exists. If your photographer has not suggested doing a pre-wedding shoot then ask them for a price as part of the overall wedding package. Booking the two together – pre and actual day photography will save you money for sure and will allow you to bargain a little.

Don’t Overlook Personalized Wedding Favors and Wedding Accessories In Your Planning

Posted by Aaron Hu

Planning a wedding is a very involved affair. There are many details to consider and a huge number of decisions to make and items to purchase. Flowers, decorations matching the theme chosen by the bride, and food for the reception are some of the more common items that must be ordered. These are, however, just the beginning of the task. Other planning items of importance include deciding whether to give the guests personalized wedding favors and also which wedding accessories will be required.

Couples who choose to give out wedding favors as a part of the celebration commonly include at least one type of favor they have had personalized. The most common practice is adding the names of the couple and the wedding date to something that the guests may take home as a keepsake to remind them of the wedding and the happiness shared with the couple. The purpose of wedding favors is, after all, to give the guests a small gift as a special way of saying “Thank you” for attending the wedding and making it a special day for the couple.

Wedding accessories can be anything under the sun. Accessories for the flower girl and ring bearer, place card holders, a guest book and pen set, and even a cake topper are items that will be needed as accessories for the wedding. These items are often found in bridal boutiques in large towns and cities.

Shopping for personalized wedding favors and wedding accessories has gotten easier since the creation of the internet. Most couples can now shop from their own homes and purchase these items from stores on the other side of the world. If a couple cannot find what they want on one site, they can be on another in just a few seconds using the internet.

Couples also have the option of ordering their personalized wedding favors and other accessories from completely different sources if they so desire. Prices on the internet are generally more affordable as well, due to the amount of competition for business. Incentives are often offered to win a couple’s business because these businesses know that couples can click a mouse and be in a competitor’s store in seconds.

The number of details that complicate planning a wedding is vast. It helps to know that some aspects of the process can be made more fun and rewarding than simply choosing from the limited selection in a bridal boutique. The convenience of finding a supplier of personalized wedding favors and wedding accessories on the internet is a welcome relief from the limitations of many of the other details of planning for your wedding.

Eternity Rings – Extra Special Gifts

Posted by Jonathan Scheid

There are some occasions that demand gifts that go above and beyond what is usually given. For these times, there is nothing which quite compares with the stunning beauty and elegance of a dazzling eternity ring.

Eternity rings are easily recognized by their seemingly endless series of dazzling gemstones which run around the shimmering precious metal band of the ring. Whether with diamonds, rubies, or emeralds, this look is simply breathtaking.

The elegance of an eternity ring relies strongly upon the band material used. Because of the exceptional value of these items, platinum or gold are the only acceptable choices. Anything less will be detrimental to the aesthetic of the ring.

An eternity ring derives much of its allure from it’s beautiful symbolism. A never ending string of gems represents the timeless attribute of true love and endless devotion. No wonder this kind of ring is so often chosen for matters of the heart.

Eternity rings can become quite expensive, especially with costly gemstones like diamonds. Yet without these precious stones, the eternity ring cannot quite fulfill its potential radiance and elegance. The price is well worth the beauty.

If an eternity ring sounds a little daunting, but you like the symbolism and style, consider getting a half eternity ring. These have gemstones only around part of the band, meaning that the ring is far less expensive and heavy.

Eternity rings are often given as wedding bands or on important anniversaries because these occasions warrant something extra special. Don’t let this trend stop you from giving this kind of jewelry for other events as well.

Some gifts are easily forgotten, and others are treasured for a lifetime due to the important memories and symbolism which they represent. An eternity ring is certainly one gift that falls into this second category due to its style and beauty.

You can use it as a perfect medium to match your fall theme in many ways both traditional and original; however, take these tips into account before choosing. First off, try to have different types. This not only provides variety, it is also helpful to have suitable options available for individuals who might be allergic to certain types of foods or ingredients such as nuts. Make sure to find out ahead of time if any one of your guest have these concerns. Second don’t be afraid of being innovative. A lot of people often see chocolate as a one trick pony, but it can be used in a lot of different ways if you put your mind to it. Here are some useful ideas for chocolate wedding favors.

A novel idea is flavored chocolates. These are candies enhanced with other flavors like apple or lime. They are perfect for autumn wedding favors. Try using seasonal tastes like pumpkin, sweet potato, or apple cinnamon to compliment the season. You will want to shop around for the most affordable choices. While flavored chocolate can be a big hit it can also be a substantial expenditure so plan accordingly when looking make your purchase. If you can’t afford to buy your favorite flavored chocolate to supply your entire guest list, consider buying a smaller amount that can be mixed with other less expensive edible favors. This is a great way to spice up your guest gifts.

A traditional favorite is pure chocolate. It is simple, sweet, and popular with a lot of people. You can get it in all kinds of shapes so try to get it in seasonal shapes such as pumpkins, scarecrows, cornstalk, and even maple leaves. Take it another step by looking for colored chocolates that will more closely match your theme. Another great way to add a customized touch is to have chocolate inscribed with your monogram, a special message, or a simple thank you. It’s also possible to purchase personalized wrappers much in the same way.

Don’t forget about cocoa mix. This is a great choice since hot cocoa is a popular drink during the autumn and winter seasons. You probably won’t want to give guests a cocoa drink that is commonly available, at least if having something special is important to you. So, try to go for exotic flavors that guests might have tried before. This is where online shopping becomes your best friend since you will be able to find all kinds of flavors. Of course, make sure to personalize the cocoa packet with your theme and wedding related motifs.

Pastries are another excellent favor option. Who can resist the decadent combination of pastry and chocolate? If you choose this, make sure to get bite sized portions that can easily be packaged. The choices for this are almost endless. You can go French with eclairs or go with home favorites like brownies and chocolate chip cookies. A nice touch for this approach is to use innovative and unique favor boxes to present the gifts. This gives your guests something special to keep as a souvenir after the edible favor is consumed.

Easy Ways To Make Money With Event Photography

Posted by Willy Wong

A great way to make money with photography is to focus on events. You will be surprised about how many people want events covered and photographed.

Here’s how you can do it

The key trick is in choosing your market slice. You must choose a slice of the market where people want to keep memories alive in print. It must also be an event that is hard to capture for a not professional so that they will need your services.

One idea is to go to kids sports events. Get permission from the coach to click pics for the parents watching and then start clicking away. If you turn up with a great big telephoto lens like the ones used for pro coverage of events, you will be taken seriously. Make sure you get all the kids doing great action shots and then hand out flyers to all the kids parents watching with you’re web address. If you can write down the parents email address so you can email them the URL of you site then upload the pics to your web site that day and email everyone. If you have a simple shopping cart set up you can make money in a few hours as people pop in to see the pics and buy them for $20 or more a pop.

You can do a similar thing with weddings. Take all the regular pictures as part of the wedding coverage but then get your URL printed on the wedding invites and all the other wedding materials and also get an email list of all the wedding guests, offer the couple a nice 20% discount for doing this and then take lots of extra pics at the wedding of the guests doing all the things they do. Upload all the pics to your site and send the emails. You will then make a lot more money than the 20% discount it cost you because then 20 or 30 people will be also purchasing your pics at $20 or more a shot straight from your site. Also charging them more for higher resolution shots is a great bonus income as well.

The trick is to find a niche where you can excel by being the best photographer in the room, and offering an easy way for people to buy your photos.

Dog shows, fashion shows, horse shows, car shows, livestock competitions, rock shows, – the list goes on. Keep your eye out in the events section of your local paper to see what is happening. Always ask for permission to shoot pics and if you need to offer the people 10% of the income if feel you need to so you can get easy access.
